UK aid set to increase in line with economic growth

UK aid increased by almost a third in 2013 to reach 0.7%* of gross national income (GNI). If future British governments continue to meet the 0.7% target, aid will now grow in line with broader national income.

The upper house of the UK Parliament is debating a draft law that would make 0.7% of national income as aid a legal requirement. The committee stage takes place on Friday 6 February 2015.

Notes

* Methods for calculating gross national income (GNI) changed in 2014 (to ESA2010). The UK reached 0.71% in 2013 on the basis (ESA95) of the methodology in use in that year. For more information see DFID, Statistics on International Development 2014, pages 9-10 and table 1.
