The World Health Organisation (WHO) continues to report thousands of new cases of Ebola in West Africa every month; cases in Sierra Leone alone have consistently remained above 2,300 each month since October, totalling 10,094 since the start of the crisis (up to 10 January). Recent reports had suggested that the number of cases in Liberia was beginning to stabilise after declining significantly since October, however 260 cases have already been reported so far this month, indicating a possible increase in infections in the country.

The UN-coordinated  appeal is currently 78% funded, with a further US$1.3 billion in contributions made outside the appeal and US$509.5 million remaining in uncommitted pledges.
