Initiatives
Development Initiatives is a group of people committed to eliminating poverty.
We engage to increase understanding of measurement and statistics for wealth, poverty, societal choice and processes. We promote a better understanding of risk, vulnerability and needs during crises and in chronic poverty situations. We work to make all poverty reduction resources visible: private flows, domestic revenue, remittances, non-ODA, southern flows, military spending and to increase access to, understanding and use of information about the resources available for poverty reduction at all levels.
We try to empower by putting this information, and the capacity to use it, in the hands of the poor. We promote ownership not donorship, accountability to all stakeholders, and are working actively to enable feedback loops so that poor people can tell decision makers about the impact of money spent in their name.
We want to help eliminate poverty by making the global stop-poverty guarantee a reality – health, education, water and sanitation, income, security and information – for all.

The DATA report
We have provided the background number crunching and advice on the ONE/DATA reports since 2005. We believe that keeping political leaders to their aid commitments focuses attention on poverty elimination, raises awareness of key poverty related goals, and helps use information and analysis to promote accountability.
Chronic Poverty
We work with the Chronic Poverty Research Centre on dissemination, engagement and communication to raise awareness of the factors which characterise, cause and perpetuate chronic poverty: its multidimensional and Inter-generational nature; vulnerability, exclusion and exploitation.
Commit4Africa
Commit4Africa pushes information on aid commitments out to a wider audience – so that a range of people can monitor and hold accountable all those making aid commitments at the international level.
African Monitor and Development Research and Training
African Monitor and Development Research and Training bring experience and perspectives grounded in realities and constraints of Africa, access to ‘grassroots’, networks and governments. In exchange, we provide better information on the development agenda outside Africa, access to OECD governments, NGOs, some multilaterals, some statistical capacity and networking opportunities.
