Welcome to Development InitiativesWelcome to the Development Initiatives website. We hope it will provide you with an idea of who we are, what we do and how we like to work. Right now, we are working with governments, multilateral agencies, research institutes and NGOs to:
Aid data and statistics workshop, Kampala19 December 2008 - Development Initiatives, aidinfo and Development Research and Training (DRT) have just held a two-day workshop in Kampala to discuss aid data and statistics needs and tips. The workshop follows on from similar events held in London and Washington earlier this year. The hope is to extend the programme to another European country within the next few months. After years of working with aid statistics, we know there's a wealth of statistical aid information available to policymakers, reserchers, NGOs, government ministers and individuals. - but making online databases work for you and understanding what statistical data you can get from different sources is not easy. We'd like our workshops to provide an opportunity for knowledge-sharing about the main statistical systems held by the OECD DAC; how they work, the definitions, and protocols they can use and what they can tell you. We're also interested in finding out what actual users think of the databases and in exploring ways to improve existing systems. We see this as part of the overall programme to improve data accessibility and transparency, which can help accelerate poverty reduction. (For more info on aid data, transparency and poverty reduction, you might like to visit our aidinfo site.)
