As well as working to deliver research and consultancy services
on behalf of others, Development Initiatives encourages contacts between individuals,
groups and organisations that share its commitment to eradicating absolute poverty.
We know that the eradication of absolute poverty is:
- achievable – it has been an accepted part of the political agenda for
over 10 years
- affordable
– economic analysis reveals that we have the ability to
end poverty within this generation
- desirable
– the facts make the moral case.
But we also know that if we are to see the end of absolute poverty
within our lifetime, we need to take steps now to:
- harness the growing public and political will
- build understanding
of the factors that trap people and countries in chronic poverty
- address
the inequalities and exploitation that keep people poor
- identify
the key milestones that need to be reached to ensure that children
born in 2008 do not pass their poverty on to the next generation.
Development Initiatives believes there are real
grounds for optimism – enormous changes are taking place.
A decade ago, who would have predicted that all major UK political
parties would have set timetabled commitments to reach 0.7%?
Our partners and clients have a variety of needs,
aims and objectives. As an independent company, we are lucky enough
to get to work with individuals, donor governments, agencies, NGOs and academic institutions that share our commitment to ending absolute poverty. |
